Hospitals have been using ultraviolet light (UV) as a cleaning agent for years and have used large industrial-grade machines to decontaminate rooms. Now we have consumers who want to clean pretty much everything from phones to kitchen surfaces, to entire rooms.

In the Pandemic of 2020, we have been told to stay home to stay safe. However, bringing the virus into an enclosed space such as a home can be dangerous as well. 

That’s why many people are turning to safe, tested UVC Air Sanitising Systems. They do this in order to kill the virus in the air and keep their home safe. 

What is Available, and How it Works…..

Strong UVC light is regularly used to decontaminate surgical tools and hospital rooms.

Certain types of UVC light kills both bacteria and viruses by damaging the DNA of the viruses and allowing the UV to destroy them. 

A 2017 study showed 222 nm U-shaped light killed more bacteria than 254 nm – which would have been toxic to humans.

The study was repeated in 2018 with the H1N1 virus, and its narrower spectrum has also proved effective in eradicating the virus.

Killing bacteria and viruses with UV light is particularly effective because it kills germs without regard to drug resistance or toxic chemicals.

UVC lamps for consumers come in a variety of shapes, including Robotic, Tower and small wands. The Wheeled Tower UV Lights are easy to maneuver and cost a lot less than similar systems.

A 2008 study tested 30 toothbrush disinfectants that purport to rid toothbrushes of diseases and germs. The study found that compared to toothbrushes that were not treated with UV light, much more bacteria growth formed and 86% more of the colonies of viruses remained.

A 2014 study tested the effectiveness of a wearable UV Led bar and found that it kills 100 common bacteria in five seconds, inactivates 90% of spores and eliminates bacteria that are difficult to kill in 40 seconds.

 To disinfect with a wand or a bar, you can use a UVC light to shine on anything you want to disinfect, including counters, bedding and steering wheels for car garages. These wands can be used anywhere and claim to work in seconds. They are often marketed to travelers who care about things like hygiene in hotel rooms.

However , they are not tested to any scientific standard when compared to larger bulb systems such as PathogenUK’s.

How Portable Systems are Used

Such products are typically intended for hikers and travelers in remote areas who are more likely to encounter untreated water sources. Used correctly, UVC lamps can clean water in less than five seconds, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Some companies selling these pens claim that if used properly, they can remove 99.99% of bacteria and viruses from the water within seconds.

 It is important to stick to travel and medical advice, including information on the risks of incorrect use. 

Specifically, researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Public Health examined a handy UVC light device called SteriPEN. The researchers concluded that the number of bacteria and the reduction in viruses depended on how the device was used. Those who did well overall, like those who did not, had to be reassessed. 

Before using, check the instructions on the device and still wash your hands before and after use and wash your hands after each use.
